Donald Trump has reportedly asked if nuclear bombs could be used to stop hurricanes hitting the US.

The suggestion came during a hurricane briefing at the White House, according to US news website Axios.

Mr. Trump's idea involved dropping a bomb inside the eye of the hurricane to try and disrupt it.

When asked how the briefer reacted, an anonymous source re-called he said something to the effect of, "Sir, we'll look into that."

The White House told Axios that its doesn't comment on private discussions that may have taken place between the president and his advisers.
