EU Council President Donald Tusk's accused Boris Johnson of playing a 'stupid blame game' as Brexit talks appear close to collapse.

It's after Downing Street sources revealed details of a phone call between the prime minister and Germany's leader.

Angela Merkel apparently said a new agreement was 'overwhelmingly unlikely'.

That's unless Northern Ireland remains in the customs union.

In the UK, Labour has accused Boris Johnson of a 'cynical attempt to sabotage the negotiations'.

EU Council President Donald Tusk says the future of the European Union is at stake:

Tanaiste Simon Coveney says it's "Hard to disagree" with President Tusk's assessment.

Coveney says the EU Council President's words reflect "the frustration across EU and the enormity of what’s at stake for us all. We remain open to finalize a fair Brexit deal but need a UK government willing to work with EU to get it done."
