The 91st Academy Awards will take place on Sunday February 23rd in Los Angeles.

It was recently revealed that the ceremony will not have a host for the first time in 30 years following Kevin Hart's decision to step down.

However, organisers have found themselves in hot water over another change to the ceremony.

The Academy president, John Bailey, announced that 4 awards would be presented during commercial breaks in order to save time for the television broadcast.

The awards affected are cinematography, film editing, live-action short and makeup/hair.

Many people have criticised the decision and voiced their opinions over certain categories getting snubbed, including Russel Crowe, who won the award for Best Actor in 2001, and Alfonso Cuarón, who is nominated for Best Director this year.

Two time Academy Award winner Guillermo Del Toro cleared up some of the confusion about the situation:

We're not convinced.
