Gardaí in Leitrim are investigating after a Sinn Fein TD's car was set on fire overnight.
Martin Kenny's vehicle was set alight outside his home at Cloonsarne in Aughavas at approximately 2.30am.
The fire was contained to the car and no other property was damaged and no injuries reported.
Last week, Deputy Kenny spoke out about death threats he received.
He said he was targeted for speaking out against right-wing anti-immigrant hate speech.
The Sinn Fein leader Mary Lou McDonald has described the fire as a frightening experience.
She said "Thankfully no member of the Kenny family was injured but it could easily have been different."
Deputy McDonald described those responsible for the fire are "criminal thugs".
She said “An attack on the home or property of an elected public representative is a deeply serious and sinister development.
"It represents an attack on the democratic system itself."
Gardaí at Mohill are investigating.
