Boys in Green Heading Back to New Jersey

The Republic of Ireland will play Mexico in an international friendly at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey on Thursday, June 1st. The game is due to take place three days before the Boys in Green face Uruguay at the Aviva Stadium. Martin O'Neill will use both games to prepare for the crucial World Cup Group D qualifier against Austria in Dublin on 11th of June.

Ireland have played against Mexico four times, drawing three and losing once. Cast your mind back to the 1994 World Cup when Ireland lost 2-1 to Mexico in the sizzling heat of Orlando.

John Aldridge scored Ireland's goal not long after he had a difference of opinion with a touchline official:

 

However Irish fans will have much fonder memories from the 94 World Cup when a Ray Houghton goal gave Jack Chartlon's side a famous 1-0 win against Italy at the Giants Stadium in New Jersey.
